Let's Talk about Becoming...
Hi, I'm Jerica
I’m a widowed mom of four.
Two years ago, my husband—partner of 15 years—died after a long battle with cancer. Overnight, I went from being his caregiver to learning how to carry the weight of our family on my own. Grief isn't something you finish. It changes shape. Some days it's quiet. Other days it sneaks up on you in the grocery store, during a birthday party, or at two in the morning when the house is finally still. For a while, I thought I had to rebuild my life before anyone would want to hear my story. I was wrong.
Earlier this year, I poured everything I had into building an online business. I believed if I worked hard enough, I could make it work quickly. Instead, I burned myself out. Reality caught up with me, and I made the decision to return to work as an overnight caregiver.
At first, I felt like I had failed. Now I see it differently.
My night shifts aren't the end of my dream—they're what's funding it. Some nights I care for people while they sleep. Between client wake-ups, I write blog posts, answer emails, brainstorm ideas, and continue building the business I still believe in.
This isn't a success story told from the finish line.
It's the story of rebuilding while you're still standing in the rubble.
I created Sovereign Becoming because I couldn't find enough places that talked honestly about what comes after loss.
Not the polished version. The real one.
The version where you're grieving and trying to pay the bills. Where you're raising children while wondering who you are now. Where you're rebuilding your health, your finances, your faith, your confidence, and your future—all at the same time.
Here you'll find stories about grief, caregiving, slow living, motherhood, herbal wellness, rebuilding after financial hardship, and creating income with honesty and intention.
I don't have everything figured out. I'm simply documenting what rebuilding actually looks like.
If my story helps one woman feel a little less alone in hers, then this website has done exactly what I hoped it would.
You're in the right place if —
- Something happened that split your life into before and after.
- You’re rebuilding without a blueprint.
- You’re becoming someone new — slowly.
- You’re tired of advice from people already healed.
- You want honesty more than aesthetic.
- You are not finished becoming — and you don’t want to pretend you are.
I write about the real process of rebuilding a life:
• grief and emotional recovery
• sobriety and identity shifts
• creating a steady home and slow rhythms
• herbal learning and earth-grounded care
• building income online without hustle culture

Healing
I got sober at 33. Cared for my husband on hospice and lost him — all within a year.
Healing stopped being abstract.
It became survival.
I write about what actually steadied me — grief, sobriety, and the parts of myself I couldn’t outrun anymore.
Home
When everything unraveled, home was the first thing I rebuilt.
Not perfectly.
Not aesthetically.
But intentionally.
I write about building steadiness in real life — tight budgets, four kids, and a version of home that doesn’t need to impress anyone.
Income
I was in debt and got into a relief program and realized I needed income.
So I went back to work. And in the night hours I am learning how to blog — without pretending to be someone I’m not.
I write about what’s actually working.
No hype. Just steady, sovereign growth.
